Object Reconstruction from Geometric Features and Constraints in Reverse Engineering

  • An approach is proposed to backtrack the intent of designer in selecting the form features and determining their interrelationships during the design process. At first, feature recognition is applied to extract form features from the range data and subdivide the range data into corresponding segments, then to construct a mathematical model with underlying geometric constraints and to find the optimal solution of the parametric objective function satisfying the constraints. Such an approach gives a more accurate approximation of the reconstructed model to the original design.
