Procedural Bi-directional Texture Function Synthesis of Woven Fabrics

  • In this paper we present an approach to bi-directional texture function (BTF) synthesis of woven fabrics, which have approximately regular structures in fine scale. The approach starts from an analysis of the weave pattern and finds out the basic deformation element of the woven fabrics: visible thread segment. By modeling of the visible thread segment and combining it with the weave pattern matrix, we obtain the meso-structure, or surface detail of the woven fabrics. Lastly, each texture image of the BTF is synthesized through a ray-tracing process over the generated detail surface of the weave pattern for each given view and light direction.
