A Novel Embedded Zerotree Wavelet Image Coding Based on Visual Masking

Abstract
The proposed algorithm can be viewed as an improved version of EZW algorithm, where the lowest frequency subband is coded separately from other highpass subbands, the coefficients in high frequency subband is scanned adaptively in the order of visual masking value. Experiment results show that the new approach performs better than EZW and some other improved coding in the aspects of recovery image quality and encoding/decoding time.
