JPEG 2000-The New Still Image Compression Standard

As a new still image compression standard, JPEG2000, which intends to satisfy a diversity of applications, has become international standard in December 2000. The paper systematically analyses the standard and gives description of some corresponding algorithms, such as DWT based on the lifting scheme, bit plane coding, adaptive AC, Tag tree coding, ROI coding and ordering the codestream based on progressive order. We will find that the sophisticated features of the standard allow a single codestream to be used efficiently by a number of applications.
