Design and Implementation of An Engineering Data Kernel Manager——EDBMS/2

Efficient engineering data management is key to the success of a CAD/CAM system. In this paper, we introduce an engineering data kernel manager called EDBMS/2 developed by our laboratory, with emphasis on its data model, its version mechanisms and its implementation issues.The mechanisms based on DBV and DBV graph concepts,proposed in this paper, along with its powerful data model, make EDBMS/2 own powerful abilities for engineering applications, such as: integrated management of unstructured and structured data, composite objects handling, version control, design data sharing, localization of data management. As its important applications, EDBMS/2 has been successfully used in EDCADS project. And it's being used in developing an engineering OODBMS.
