Detail Representation and Calculation Method of Topological and Metric Relationships between Line and Region

Abstract
Since a pure topological or metric relation could give ambiguous description for complex two-dimensional space objects,a new integrated model of both topological and metric relations is proposed. When a line intersects a region, their topological and metric relation is expressed by a series of (n-1) matrices with topological and metric components,by which semantic information is more adequately described. An algorithm is also introduced for computation of the small circle intersection of polyline nodes,by taking into account the uncertainty of objects and surface with holes. The seven rules are provided for the determination of line-region topological relationships as well as some metric measurements approaches (length, inner traversal splitting,etc.). Finally the proposed model is successfully applied for the computation of the areas of land-use polygons minus linear features.
