Algorithm for Displaying Surfaces from Volume Data

  • Visualization techniques for 3D scalar fields can be used to display constant value surfaces as well as to simulate transmission effect of X-ray.In this paper,ray-casting approach is applied to render surface from volume data of color segmented medical images.A novel and effective formula is proposed to estimate the surface normal by potential functions.Some implementation details are introduced,and highly realistic images of object surfaces are obtained.
