Evolution of Product Configuration Model and Reconfiguration

Product configuration management has been a major problem in configuration design, and the core issue is the evolution of configuration model, configuration individual and reconfiguration. By reconfiguration, the configuration of an existing product is subject to replacement, upgrading, or functionality change. This paper introduces dynamic characteristic of product configuration, actual requirement of reconfiguration, the difference between configuration design and reconfiguration. Based on the description, a version propagation rule of configuration model and configuration unit is presented. In addition, three different configuration levels are also proposed to express configuration environment, and a reconfiguration algorithm is given to reconfigure a desired product using the old configuration product and the current configuration model.
