A Technical Review on the Process in Modeling and Rendering of Atmospheric Phenomena

Abstract
Realistic simulation of atmospheric phenomena is one of the challenging topics in computer graphics. This paper makes a comprehensive survey on current techniques for modeling and rendering of atmospheric phenomena from the point of view of graphics. Some typical approaches are summarized and the recent progress is reported. The fundamental principles behind these approaches are also analyzed. Finally, future research issues on simulation of atmospheric phenomena are highlighted.
