Simulation of 3-D Virtual Garment Stitching

  • Techniques for converting 2-D paper patterns into 3-D clothing are studied. A rectangular mesh generation algorithm is proposed to discretize the 2-D paper patterns. Two new concepts, namely direct stitching and crumpled stitching are defined. Two different edge adjustment schemes for different stitching models are given as well. Meanwhile, sewing force is applied as an additional constraint to control the stitching process. Finally, an advanced algorithm based on binary space partition and bounding box technique is presented to improve the efficiency of collision detection. All these methods are implemented and tested in the self-developed 3-D Virtual Garment Stitching System.
