Boundary Light Fields

  • A new approach to IBR technique is presented based on 3D plenoptic function and utilizing the approximate scene geometry model. Through introducing planar geometric boundary of scene, our approach shows some merits in comparison with previous similar rendering techniques. It can sample the ray-set in an adaptive way according to the scene complexity or special user demands, thus reducing the plenoptic sampling data effectively without degeneration of rendering quality; it restricts the vertical distortion to an acceptable limit with correct scene depth; and by arranging the ray-set focusing on scene objects, an arbitrary sampling track can be used, which can allow observer move freely at will. Boundary light fields is a simple IBR technique, can be easily employed in walkthrough system of synthetic or real scene.
