Abstract: In this paper a parametric design method based on variational geometry is presented．It separates the drawing information into two parts：the Structural Elements and the Contour Elements．With the development of variational geometric solving method and the constraint propagate algorithms，the drafting performance are improved greatly．This paper presents the general principle and data model of this approach．
