Abstract: Because of the obvious complementarity of axiomatic design (AD) and design structure matrix (DSM),it is considered that axiomatic design matrix (DM) and DSM can co-evolve step-by-step during the product design process,which can lead to an ideal integration of AD and DSM.In this paper,how to implement the divergent/convergent design process using the co-evolution of DM and DSM is investigated,including the divergent functional requirements solving based on DM and the convergent solution evaluation based on DSM.Taking a paper-smoothing machine as a design case study,the co-evolution of DM and DSM is described in detail.
